The Spirit of Entrepreneurship Awards™ Dinner was a huge success. Two prizes of $2,500 each will be presented to the Scheinfeld Center’s New Venture Challenge in 2012, one in the name of our Premier Diamond Sponsor, Montecito Bank & Trust.

The Spirit of Entrepreneurship Awards™ are designed to recognize the contributions of women in Santa Barbara to the economy as well as to contribute and support future economic growth through the education of student entrepreneurs.

The program honored Maria Contreras-Sweet, Founder and Chair of Promerica Bank and former Secretary of Business, Transportation & Housing for the State of California, as well as six women in the Santa Barbara community who have shown entrepreneurial success in the following categories:

• Manufacturing/Wholesale/Retail
• Professional Services
• Health/Fitness/Beauty
• Publishing/Communications/Media
• Science & Technology
• Tourism/Hospitality

The Spirit of Entrepreneurship Awards™ Dinner and Presentation was held in conjunction with the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Santa Barbara City College. The Scheinfeld Center's New Venture Challenge is a two-tiered business pitch competition for SBCC students and area high school students to promote youth enrepreneurship. The student awards included scholarship and/or cash awards for the first, second and third place at both the college and high school level.

Ms. Contreras-Sweet, the recipient of the main Spirit of Entrepreneurship award, not only presented the awards to the women who win in each category, she also presented the Scheinfeld Center's New Venture Challenge awards. This served to tie the program and entrepreneurship theme together.
