“My biggest piece of advice is two fold: First, do not rush into starting a company! This initial "discovery" period is often over looked. Spend time getting to know an industry, and really learn as much as you can about the landscape and potential challenges before you start digging in. Go to tradeshows, ask questions, work for competitiors, anything to help you understand how you can add to the current marketplace. Second, use that "discovery" time to tune into how much you actually care about the problem you are solving. I think a lot of people are drawn by the "sexy" nature of being a founder or running a startup, but anyone who has done it can tell you how unglamourous it can be. No one is going to care more about your company than you, and this can fuel you through the hardest days. Make sure you actually care!”
